Fall Favorites

Fall is the beginning of my favorite time of year – the crisp air, cozy sweaters, and, of course, all the fun family activities that come with it! Whether it's apple picking, visiting pumpkin patches, or whipping up seasonal recipes at home, there's so much to enjoy this time of year. Here are some of our family's go-to fall activities, and hopefully, they inspire you to create your own fall traditions!

Apple Picking Adventures

We always kick off our fall season with apple picking. One of our absolute favorites is Stepp’s Hillcrest Orchard. Yes, it’s a bit of a drive, but trust me, it’s worth it! This place has rows and rows of apple trees with no reservations required (which is a bonus). The kids love running around, shooting apples from the cannon, and bouncing on the giant outdoor jumping pad. Plus, their barn gift shop sells the most delicious apple cider donuts and candy apples! We also pick up pumpkins here, making it a one-stop fall adventure. I find the drive relaxing and scenic, a nice way to escape the bustle of the city. I shared an Instagram reel of our experience, and you can watch that here.

If you’re looking for something closer to Charlotte, Windy Hill Orchard is a great spot, though you do need to make a reservation. Carrigan Farms is another option, but they only offer apple picking in September, and yes, you’ll need a reservation here, too. Sky Top Orchard is one I’ve heard great things about and plan to visit as well!

Pumpkin Patch Favorites

Nothing says fall like a trip to the pumpkin patch, and Hall Family Farm is one of our go-tos. It’s packed with fun activities for the kids – they can explore the corn maze, enjoy the kids play area, and even enjoy the food stands– and yes, they sell apple cider donuts!

Another family favorite is Hunter Farm. We’ve done some family photo sessions here, and the kids can’t get enough of the petting barn and hayrides. Pro tip: Head over on a "Farm Friday" for live music, food trucks, and adult beverages, while the kids have a blast!

If you're a purist who wants to pick your pumpkin straight from the vine, head to Bush-N-Vine Farm – it's a classic fall activity!

Fall Movie Nights

"Don't you love New York in the fall? It makes me wanna buy school supplies. I would send you a bouquet of newly sharpened pencils if I knew your name and address." -- Joe Fox (played by Tom Hanks) in the movie You've Got Mail.

When we’re not out and about, we love cozying up for a good fall movie night. Some of my fall favorites are You've Got Mail, Little Women, and Anne of Green Gables.

As soon as October hits, it’s all about Hocus Pocus, E.T., Wizard of Oz, and The Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown. We make popcorn, light a pumpkin spice candle, and settle in for a cozy night.

Cleaner, Cozier Living

Speaking of candles, I’ve been working on cleaning out our home of toxic products, and I recently discovered Rowe Casa Organics. Their pumpkin spice lotion and pumpkin spice candle are fall must-haves for me. What I love most is that their products are safe and non-toxic, so I can feel good about what my family is using. The lotion leaves my skin feeling soft without all the chemicals, and the candles give the house that perfect pumpkin-spiced scent without harmful additives.

A Healthy Fall Treat

Of course, fall is also about indulging in all things pumpkin-flavored! If you're like me and trying to find healthier options for the family, here’s a recipe my kids and I love: Pumpkin Protein Muffins! Not only are they delicious, but they’re packed with good-for-you ingredients and Truvani Pumpkin Protein Powder for an extra protein boost.

Here’s the recipe:

  • Pumpkin Puree: ½ 15-ounce can

  • Banana: 1 ripe, peeled

  • Eggs: 2 (or vegan substitute with flaxseed)

  • Coconut Oil: ½ cup

  • Honey or Maple Syrup: ¼ cup

  • Vanilla Extract: 1 teaspoon

  • Rolled Oats: 1¾ cups

  • Truvani Pumpkin Protein Powder: ½ to ¾ cup

  • Baking Soda: 1 teaspoon

  • Baking Powder: ¼ teaspoon

  • Sea Salt: ½ teaspoon

  • Pumpkin Pie Spice: ½ teaspoon

Preheat your oven to 350°F. Blend all the ingredients, pour into muffin cups, and bake for 20-22 minutes. These muffins make for a great snack or quick breakfast!

Tip: I love to mix in chopped walnuts or dark chocolate chips!

Fall is such a wonderful time of year, especially for families in and around Charlotte. Whether you’re apple picking, exploring a pumpkin patch, or just cozying up at home, there’s so much to enjoy this season.
